When Someone Dies

What to do when someone dies?

Arranging a funeral can be one of the most stressful experiences a person can undertake. Amidst the emotions associated with the loss of a loved one, families are expected to make choices and decisions that best reflect their loved one.

A sudden death

When someone dies suddenly or tragically, the coroner will become involved and the deceased will be removed from the place of death by the coroner's staff to the Royal Victoria Mortuary, where an examination of the deceased may be carried out to determine the cause of death. Contact D. Watters Funeral Services as soon as you prefer after the death and they will guide you in the right direction. The funeral may be delayed for a day or two, due to the examination which may be carried out.

If the death occurs in a hospital or a nursing home, the staff will notify the doctor and ourselves, as your funeral director. If the cause of death is clear and the doctor has attended the deceased during their last illness and this falls within the last 28 days, they will issue a medical certificate of the cause of death, which is needed to register the death. If the cause of death is not clear however, it will be reported to the coroner. The coroner may need to speak to the deceased’s GP or arrange for a post-mortem examination.

Our services are available in Tobermore, Magherafelt, Coagh, Cookstown, Moneymore and the surrounding areas.
